About the Committee
Michael Collins - Chairman
Michael joined Belmont in 1977 and has always been in the mix where there are things to be done to keep the company running smoothly. As well as looking after the interests of our existing members, Michael gets very involved in group publicity and building our theatrical sets. Despite all this, and the day-job as well, Michael has found the time to act in and direct more shows than we have space to mention here, the most recent of which includes directing our sell-out production of 'Pardon Me Prime Minister'.
Gillian Weinberg - Secretary
Gillian joined Belmont Theatre Company over 35 years ago and has been Secretary for around 25 of those years, with a 6 year break when living in Newcastle. Having always had a love of performing on stage she has played a variety of parts, indicating her passion for comedy as a favourite genre. An all-round team player, when not on stage Gillian can be found supporting shows backstage, front of house or running box office. Gillian proudly states "It's great being part of a group of friendly and like-minded people".
Malcolm Weinberg - Treasurer
Although loosely connected with Belmont for the last 35 years, due to wife, Gillian's involvement with the group, Malcolm only became a member in 2000 when press-ganged, as the nearest accountant, to take up the role of Treasurer, as nobody else could be found to do it (and still can't). In 2011 he had a stint at being Co-Chairman, and also appeared in his first, and he says "last", show, J.B. Priestley's The Linden Tree. In recent years Malcolm has spent most of his 'Belmont time' on the development of publicity and, more recently, box office. Whilst enjoying theatre, especially Belmont productions, his main hobbies lie elsewhere in the spheres of listening to hard/progressive rock music, record collecting, playing Bridge and following the (mis)fortunes of Newcastle United Football Club.
Carole Baynes - Artistic Director
Carole began her amateur stage career many moons ago as a dancer with Harrow Light Opera Company and over the years has played numerous acting and dancing roles with Belmont and other Societies. Carole is also en experienced director and choreographer. For Belmont, Carole leads a small play-reading group whose task is to select and recommend shows for the group to stage in the future as we like to plan our programme of productions two years ahead.
Helen Sherwood - Publicity
Helen has served on the committee for a couple of years and is noted for her willingness to volunteer for tasks and her commitment to the group. Helen used to be a member of Imperial Players but that company has now ceased to operate. When not acting on stage, Helen can often be found working on the production side of the shows, especially obtaining hard-to-get props and has also become aware of the variety of work involved in publicising productions so as to obtain full houses.
Dawn Harvey - Membership, Publicity, Website
Dawn is the newest member of the Belmont committee and, as such, often brings fresh thinking to the group. Dawn has been with the group for three years and made her acting debut in 2014 in The Real Inspector Hound and has appeared in several shows for the group since, the most recent being Stepping Out, in which she had to learn Tap Dancing. In her spare time Dawn enjoys Belly Dancing and has had a 30-year career as such appearing on TV, Radio and organising her own shows. Also a sci-fi geek. (A huge Doctor Who fan)!
