Belmont Theatre is presenting R C Sherriff's iconic play ‘Journey's End' at the Pump House Theatre, Watford in October 2018. We invite you to be a part of this iconic play set in the trenches during WW1. This will be a special WW1 100-year commemorative production highlighting the sacrifices and experiences of men thrown together and brings out the simmering raw tensions and traumatic relationships of the situation.
This is a rare opportunity to be part of a production that people will remember for a long time. RC Sherriff wrote this play based on his own experiences on the Western Front. As well as being very emotional, the whole play has the ring of authenticity, and we intend that this authenticity will be a keynote of our production. Thus, the costumes, set design and the lighting plus sound will be extra special to create the claustrophobic atmosphere of life in the trenches.
We are fortunate to have secured the services of Linda Hampson to direct this production. Linda, an experienced director in regular demand by other groups locally, has directed plays by many acclaimed writers including Moliere, Ibsen, Terence Rattigan, Dario Fo and Arthur Miller. Her production of ‘A View from the Bridge' recently won first place in all eligible categories in the Barnet and District Drama Festival, including overall best production.
Linda is particularly keen that no-one rules themselves out too hastily because of age. Recruiting and conscription ages were 18-40 but by 1918, when this play is set, the loss of life was so great that men were accepted up to the age of 51.
