Update from your Chairman.

Welcome to Belmont's September Newsletter.

I trust you are enjoying the summer. Certainly has been a mixed bag of weather so let's keep our fingers crossed for the remainder of August and September.
The cast of Pardon Me, Prime Minister' are enjoying a welcome break from rehearsals.
I hope you will all get your tickets orders in soon for what promises to be a very funny and entertaining show. It has all the stock ingredients of a rollicking good farce, doors rapidly opening and closing, mistaken identities galore and utter chaos as the hapless Prime Minister frantically tries to avoid his past indiscretions from detracting from the proposed puritanical budget.
Having played the Prime Minister when Belmont did this play in 1995 it's great to now revisit it.
It would be lovely to see members/patrons and friends come down to rehearsals in September and October BUT it is important you study the rehearsal schedule as things are a bit fragmented to suit some holiday arrangements.
Please promote the show to family and friends.
Also can I remind you about the forthcoming reading and audition for 'Sitting Pretty' by Amy Rosenthal, our February production which will be directed by Paul Botly.
Reading 10th November
Auditions 12th November  7.45pm
'Sitting Pretty' is an extremely funny play with a clever mixture of sadness and hilarity.

Michael Collins
Chairman

Thank you to Estelle and Anthony for hosting Belmont's annual Garden party!
This turned out to be a cosy indoor event due to the weather but with lovely food and good company  as well as top entertainment we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Thanks again to Estelle &  Anthony and also to Graham for organising this event as well as to all of you who took part. This was another highlight of the Belmont year.

Aspects of the Musical - Our inspirational November-lecture.

On Sunday November 15th we are holding a 'talk' hosted by Mike Morrow centred about the history and the evolving of Musical entertainment.
We will start with a brief history of the musical, leading to how with the rise of jazz and ragtime ‘ownership’ of the musical passed across the pond to New York. The focus will take in the golden age of the singing dancer (such as Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly).  After the break The British Invasion will start with Broadway’s Golden Age from Rodgers and Hammerstein to Sondheim. We’ll then see how this morphed into a series of  Lloyd Webber and related musicals that shook Broadway...

This event will be held at the Pump House Theatre in the CHARLES ROOM commencing at 2.00pm  You need to book a space in advance. The charge is £3.00 for Members and Patrons. Non members: £5.00
If interested and would like to book please call Frankie Hogan: 07778-444030
