Belmont Theatre has won many awards for its sets and is staging is an open day at our 'get in' at The Pump House for 'A Woman of no Importance' on Sunday 20th October 2013. This is aimed primarily at people who may have an interest or are intrigued by stage lighting, sound or stage construction/design. We are inviting members of the public to come along to the theatre between 11.00am and 3.00pm to meet the group, view backstage, see the lighting/sound deck, watch lights being rigged and the staging put together. This event is free of charge. We invite all members, patrons and prospective members to a play reading evening on Friday 13th September 2013 8.00pm at our Carpenders Park rehearsal venue when we will be reading our planned play for February 2014 the hilarious comedy 'Caught in the Net' written by the master of farce Ray Cooney. If you want to know more please email Michael on michaelc76@outlook.com . We look upon this a social event and if successful we’ll certainly organise more. 'Caught in the Net' is the sequel to the hilarious 'Run for your Wife' (a play that Belmont presented back in 1994). We find John Smith, that rogue of a taxi driver, still married to 2 unsuspecting wives, Barbara in Streatham and Mary in Wimbledon BUT now he has a son , Gavin in Streatham and a daughter, Vicki in Wimbledon !!! The youngsters meet whilst surfing the net and fall in love. They are amazed at the coincidences concerning their respective fathers. Both called John Smith, both the same age and remarkably they are both taxi drivers!! Inevitably in true Ray Cooney style the romp begins with mistaken identities as the plot develops and descends into chaos. An hilarious night out to delight all the family and sure to be a Box Office winner. Please spread the word about this play reading evening. Recently Belmont Theatre has appreciated the value of getting out and meeting the public, telling you about amateur theatre in the hope that you may be stirred into breaking away from your settee or computer and coming along and, better still, deciding to join us !!!!! We are slowly becoming regulars at the Roxeth Show and Rickmansworth Fair and now we are trying our luck at Carters Steam Fair. This is a regular popular annual event held at Croxley Green and, if the weather is fine, they can get upwards of 6,000 people there, so a mammoth affair. We have a stall booked for Sunday 15th September and it will be a great opportunity for you to see us flying the Belmont flag to find out what joys amateur theatre can offer. Full annual membership costs less than one month's membership at the gym, so cost should not be a barrier to taking up a most absorbing hobby.. For all you need to know about the group's publicity and membership, please contact Michael Collins on on michaelc76@outlook.com . He will be delighted to hear from you and meet you at the fair if you happen to be there. Rehearsal are well underway for the latest show "A Woman of no Importance" a brilliantly witty and sharp piece of writing by Oscar Wilde, one of his best. The cast are being put through their paces by our experienced Director, David Goldman who certainly knows this play inside out. Slowly lines are being learnt and moves mapped out as the play comes together. We have a very experienced cast revelling in the wonderful prose so skilfully put together. Ticket sales are picking up and we anticipate very good audience figures. A few intrepid Belmont members braved the searing heat to promote the group at the recent Roxeth Fair in South Harrow. A bit of a change from last year when we were paddling around!!!! There was a lot of interest in our colourful stall, we were busy most of the 2 days chatting people up and there were quite a few punters there. We re-engaged with people who had known us as Belmont Players all those years ago and now know we are still going strong. We convinced quite a few people that Watford is not the other side of the moon and took quite a few names for the mailing list. Looking forward to doing more of these fairs where we can really engage with public and let them know about the benefits that our hobby brings. Nearly 50 members, patrons and friends attend the sun-blessed garden party in the delightful garden of Anthony and Estelle. Thanks to them for all their hard work. It was a great success, lashings of food. The temperature crept up to a sweltering 28 degrees !!!! We were entertained by a variety of acts in our very own 'Belmont’s got Talent' competition. There were songs, monologues and even Belly Dancing. It was all great fun and a brilliant opportunity to relax and chat in the sun. Looking forward to the next event. The review just arrived from the NODA critic, Harvey Kesselman, was full of praise for the production and will appear on this website soon in full. A couple of quotes from it : Belmont Theatre were last night awarded 'Best Comedy' at the Barnet and District Drama Festival in which all but two of the entries were comedies - so that was no mean feat. Here the Director, Laurence Conway, is pictured with one of the stars of the show, Gillian Weinberg. Don't drop that award, Gillian. You might break it! Just a quick note to say many thanks to you and the Belmont Theatre for a truly excellent evening on Friday. I am sure I can say on behalf of us all, how much we enjoyed The Hollow and the performance would not be out of place in the West End. Susan Jones, Hertfordshire I just wanted to let you know that we really enjoyed the production at the Pump House, one of the best plays I have been to! Julia Smith, Middlesex We've started working on our next production: 'A Woman of No Importance' by Oscar Wilde. This will be staged at The Pump House, Watford on October 23rd - 26th 2013. Thanks very much to all our audiences who again helped create packed houses. Hope you enjoyed it.
We don't rest. Our next show is Oscar Wilde's 'A Woman of no Importance' 23-26 October 2013 at the Watford Pump House. Casting for that is imminent. If interested please call 07917 324179. Dress rehearsal set of 'The Hollow'.... ....the result of month's of painstaking but very enjoyable work.... ...available to you locally and inexpensively in the form of live theatre. Tickets still available for all evening performances at 7.45 pm. Superb local live theatre at its best. "I reckon the rehearsals are amongst the best I have held - a great cast, super play and well, it’s just about ready to present to you all" - Paul Botly, Director of 'The Hollow'. Our display this morning (Saturday) before the public were let in. It was great to meet so many people in the Environmentalmarquee today and to see so many volunteers from Belmont Theatre pitching in to help in promoting the Society. We are there tomorrow (Sunday) as well. As predicted, the Saturday Matinee for The Hollow today officially sold out but we still have seats for other performances. Belmont Theatre is at the Rickmansworth Festival, Herts this weekend 18/19 May. Come and see us at our stall, free from the vagaries of the British weather in one of the tents shown in this picture. Talk to us about any aspect of amateur theatre. You can even reserve tickets at the show for our production later this month of Agatha Christie's fabulous murder mystery 'The Hollow'. We imagine that the Festival will be rather busier than in this tranquil scene and it's always great fun for all the family and a lively day out. Alternatively, beat the rush by booking tickets for The Hollow on 07917 324179. From Paul Botly, Director of our next show. “Rehearsals for Belmont Theatre’s May/June production of Agatha Christie’s “The Hollow” are going extremely well. The cast have learnt their moves on stage and we are currently working through scenes and concentrating on characterisations and relationships within the context of the play. The cast are picking up lines and working out their individual objectives necessary for their roles in the production. In addition, we have a full production crew who are working on critical elements of the production such as set design, wardrobe, props, sound and lighting. It is delightful to see so many attending rehearsals and giving their support to the cast and Belmont Theatre and ‘The Hollow'. This play has got success written all over it not only from the level of interest and support from the group but also from the substantial ticket sales and interest in the play that the box office is experiencing.” |
